"A home without violence!"

A republican preventive campaign is being held from April 8 to April 17, 2024

"A home without violence!"

Goal: to involve the general population in providing assistance and assistance to government agencies in solving problems of domestic violence with the application of individual crime prevention measures to persons with antisocial behavior.

One of the letters with touching words was left at the ODS of the Oktyabrsky District Department of Internal Affairs by a resident of Mogilevskaya Street. The 38-year-old man used to be successful in selling auto parts, but then suffered a severe head injury and, as a result, a disability, due to which he could no longer run the business. Health problems crippled the man; he began to abuse alcohol and take out his anger on his elderly mother. The woman called the police on her unfortunate son, the situation temporarily improved, and after a while the attacks of drunken aggression came again. This continued until a young district police officer got involved in solving the problem.

- He put the man under professional supervision , due to the fact of domestic violence, and took the apartment under special control. “I visited the family often and without warning,” says local police inspector, police lieutenant Vladislav Shtab. - His mother wrote down my number and could call at any time if her son was reaching for alcohol. Feeling in control, the Minsk resident changed his behavior.

But even having achieved visible results, the policeman did not reduce the degree of attention. The employee’s original idea played an important role: he asked his subordinate to record video messages for him every evening and tell him what he was doing and whether he drank alcohol that day.

“I can also unexpectedly call him and consult, for example, about replacing parts in a car, because he has been doing this for a long time,” the district police officer continues. - The awareness that it is needed has a positive effect on a person. As a result, this year his mother has not received a single complaint about her son, and he regularly sends me “circles” every day. This is a great way to keep the situation under control even at a distance and prevent relapses, which, alas, has invariably happened before.

There are cases when criminal liability is provided for committing offenses in the field of domestic violence. The punishment depends on the form, duration and severity of the damage caused. Thus, for the intentional infliction of prolonged pain, torment, or systematic beating (Article 154 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus), arrest, or restriction of freedom for up to three years, or imprisonment for the same period with or without a fine is provided. The threat of murder or infliction of grievous bodily harm is punishable by community service, or a fine, or correctional labor for up to one year, or arrest or restriction of freedom for up to three years, or imprisonment for the same period (Article 186 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus). Administrative liability is also provided for under
Art. 10.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Belarus “Intentional infliction of bodily harm and other violent acts or violation of a protective order” is punishable by a fine of up to 30 basic units, or community service, or administrative arrest.

Often, those who are subjected to domestic terror for the first time do not know where to go or where to seek protection. In such cases, you must immediately call line 102 or come to an appointment with a local police officer at a public law enforcement station.
